Rules, in plain English

What does your bookie's fine print actually say?

Ask about a real situation. We answer from that bookie's own rules — and tell you when we couldn't find one.

Had $20 on one at $5.00 with TAB and it dead heated with another runner for first. What do I collect?

TAB: $20 × 5.00 ÷ 2 = $50.00 returned. If a race has joint winners or placegetters and TAB offers no dead heat market, the payout (stake times price) is divided by the number of runners in the dead heat, then multiplied by the number of official placings those runners fill. Place ties are paid on the place portion in the same proportional way. In a multi, each dead-heated leg's price is revised by the same method. $20 win at 5.00, dead heat for first between two runners: $100 face value / 2 x 1 placing = $50 back.

Bookmakers can change their rules at any time. Always check the bookmaker's own site before you bet.
